VIEWING EMOTIONS AND THOUGHTS THROUGH

LIFE - DEATH - RESURRECTION

LIFE

What we view as an observer are fragments of life depending on the object and train of thought. We live and give life to things as well as thoughts, as we interact with inner own ways giving them purpose.

DEATH

Having used an object or train of thought for the last time, we enter the death of its life span. Here they are forgotten as layers of dust and dirt start to bury them from our minds.

RESURRECTION

As archaeologists of our own life and mind, we find moments where we come back to these long forgotten feelings or thoughts, from the past. We revive these feelings, only to find that our relationship with them are different and evolved, allowing us to see our transformative process.

RAW

“Since I was a child the rawness and power that earth and sand represent, has always captivated my attention. This pushed me towards wanting to explore the world of archaeology, as well as textures found in nature.”

Using raw material is a way to focus our attention and appreciation of what we classify as the mundane or unworthy of validation. To accept the chaos of a material that has its own life when applying it and using it, as well as respecting the form it takes within the process.

BLACK

“We need to take a forced look into the abyss of our dark tower, our shadow self, in order to start understanding who we truly are. We need to normalise our dark tower just as we have with our ivory towers.”

Using a coat of black paint allows us to move away from colour and distractions as the textures of the raw materials are the protagonists of the piece. This gives way to natural shadows and a pure representation of the life of the material used within the pieces created.

VARNISH

“The rawness of life has its beauty, more so if we elevate it as we do other refined materials. We need to start giving the same value to the mundane and shy away from taking things for granted .”

The use of refined materials is used with the sole purpose of elevating the status of the raw materials used in the creation of the art piece. Allowing each raw material to be the centre of attention and to focus on its natural life as it lives in the piece.
